TT Bike BTA Mount - Write-up

After months of having this project on the back burner, I finally had some time to sit down and plan out the BTA mount for my TT bike.

I purchased a universal BTA adapter plate and multi-bottle BTA rail from TriRig, but I guess my bike falls out of the "universal" standard because the adapter plate would not fit onto the aerobars.

Instead, I created a "baseplate" that sits on top of the headset crossbar, which threads into the bolts below holding the aerobar risers in place. On top of this baseplate is a custom "BTA tower" for the integrated BTA rail to be bolted directly into the plate. I installed some heat-set inserts into the top of the BTA tower and connected the multi-bottle BTA rail into the top of that. From there, I simply screwed in some extra bottle cages I had lying around.

The headset connection plate and integrated riser It is printed in PETG. The riser currently sits at 70 cm, but could be adjusted and reprinted in the future if I change the angle of the cockpit further (which is a likely scenario given my inability to leave things alone for more than a week).

I took the TT bike for a test ride out along the river and stopped at a local cafe. I was pleasantly surprised with how well the setup worked - the bottles were sturdy and unmoving even when completely filled. I lost a bottle once during riding, but that was due to going too quickly over a speed bump. I have seen some pros use rubber bands tied around the nozzle of the bottle and bottle cage for this exact reason, so I might have to do the same just in case.

The next iteration of this project will involve a way to mount my Garmin computer out front and above my bottles. I initially screwed a small computer mount meant for normal handlebars into the end of the multi-bottle BTA rail, but I couldn't get the mount tight enough to stop moving during the ride. I think the best solution is to either find a shorter computer mount that only requires one bolt, or integrate the mount into the riser itself.
